Wood Fence Cost in Brunswick, GA: What Drives the Price

Golden Isles Fencing and Excavation 2026-10-04

Wood is still the most popular fence on this coast, and it is the one with the widest price spread. Two wood fences can differ by nearly double per foot and both be perfectly honest quotes, because "wood fence" describes a dozen different things.

Here is what actually sits behind the number.

The working range

For a standard six-foot pressure-treated privacy fence in the Brunswick area, expect something roughly in the range of $25 to $45 per linear foot installed. That is a planning figure, not a price. Your site decides where in the range you land, and an unusual job can sit outside it entirely.

For a general comparison against vinyl, aluminum and wire, see our guide to what a fence costs in Brunswick.

Wood species

Pressure-treated southern yellow pine is the default here, and it deserves to be. It is grown regionally, it takes treatment well, it is strong, and it is affordable. Nearly every wood fence we build is treated pine.

Western red cedar costs meaningfully more, often 40% to 70% above pine for the material. It is naturally decay-resistant, dimensionally stable, and it weathers to a silver-gray a lot of people love. On the coast, cedar is a genuine upgrade rather than a vanity purchase, but it is not necessary.

One thing that matters more than species: ground-contact rated treatment on anything entering the soil. Above-ground rated posts in damp coastal earth are a false economy that shows up in year six.

Height

Height is close to a straight multiplier on material.

  • Four feet: picket or semi-private, front yards, decorative boundaries.
  • Six feet: the standard privacy height and the overwhelming majority of what we build.
  • Eight feet: noticeably more expensive per foot, not just 33% more. Taller boards, heavier rails, deeper and often wider posts to resist the extra wind load. Check your local height limits before you plan on it, as covered in our piece on fence permits in Glynn County.

Style

This is where quotes diverge most.

  • Dog-ear stockade: boards butted side by side with the corners clipped. The economical standard.
  • Board-on-board / shadowbox: boards alternate across the rails so the fence looks finished from both sides and allows some airflow. Uses noticeably more timber, typically 15% to 30% more than stockade. Popular on corner lots and anywhere the neighbor sees your fence as much as you do.
  • Privacy with lattice or a decorative top: added height and detail, added cost.
  • Picket: uses less material per foot than privacy, but more labor per picket. Often lands closer to privacy pricing than people expect.
  • Capped and trimmed: a top cap rail and trim boards make a considerable visual difference and add material and labor.

Posts, and why they are the whole argument

The part you cannot see is the part that decides how long the fence lasts.

Coastal soils here run sandy near the water and heavy clay further inland, and neither is kind. Sand offers poor lateral resistance, so posts want to be deeper. Clay holds water against the timber. On low-lying and marsh-adjacent lots the water table can be close enough that a post hole starts filling while you are digging it.

A good install means posts at roughly a third of their above-ground height in the ground, set in concrete, with the hole belled or sloped so water sheds away rather than pooling. Post spacing of six to eight feet, not stretched further to save a hole.

Some crews use 4x4 posts throughout; some use 4x6 or steel posts on gate positions and corners. That choice is not visible in a finished photo and it is absolutely visible in a quote. Ask.

Hardware

Salt air is the local tax. Electroplated screws will rust, stain the boards with black streaks, and eventually let go. Hot-dipped galvanized fasteners are the minimum on this coast; stainless is better and costs more.

The same goes for gate hardware. Hinges and latches are the moving parts, they are the first things to seize, and cheap ones on a heavy gate will fail inside a couple of seasons.

Gates

Every gate adds cost, and a wide one adds a lot. A standard walk gate typically adds a few hundred dollars. A double drive gate wide enough for a truck or a trailer needs heavier posts, often concrete footings sized for the load, bracing to stop it sagging, and serious hardware. That can run well into four figures on its own.

Decide how many gates you genuinely need. Two is common and sensible. Four is usually someone not having thought about it.

Site conditions

Things that push a job up the range:

  • Access. No truck access means everything is carried. That is pure labor.
  • Roots and obstacles. Live oaks, old pine stumps and buried construction debris all slow down post holes. Some lots need land clearing along the fence line first.
  • Slope and drainage. Most of Glynn County is flat, which helps, but crossing a swale or stepping down a bank costs more. Where the ground will not take a straight run, grading comes first.
  • Removing the old fence. Real work, especially with concreted posts. Confirm whether removal and haul-away is inside the quote.

What wood costs you after installation

Wood is the only material on this list with a genuine ongoing cost. Plan on cleaning and re-sealing every few years, more often on sun-exposed and salt-exposed runs. Budget for the occasional replacement board.

That maintenance is also wood's advantage. A damaged section is a repairable section. You do not replace a panel because a board split; you replace the board. Over a long life that repairability is worth real money, and it is why fence repairs on wood are usually straightforward.

If maintenance is the part you know you will not do, price vinyl fencing alongside wood before you decide.

Getting a real number

Measure your perimeter, decide on height and style, count your gates honestly, and then have someone walk the property. The ground, the access and the gates are what move a wood fence quote, and none of the three can be assessed from a satellite photo.
