What goes into a quality wood fence installation
A fence that will last starts with the foundation. We go deep with the post holes, and pack every wooden post with lots of concrete to make sure they stay straight and don't move around. This is especially important in the sandy, coastal soil we have. Sometimes we use those big 6x6 posts to make it the most stable and strong against the wind. It's so important to make sure the posts go in at the right depth. That way they won't move. Also, we make sure the concrete is in there right so that the bottom of the wood doesn't rot in the ground.
After the posts are in, we start building the frame with good, treated wood that won't rot or get eaten by bugs. We add these big, strong horizontal rails to give the fence a solid back. When we add those vertical pickets, we use these tough hardware parts. They're really strong and won't sag. - Framing the structure. We set strong horizontal rails across the posts. This frame is what will determine the straightness of the fence and what will prevent future warping.
- Attaching the pickets. We attach boards one at a time. We pay attention to spacing and alignment. This approach will let the fence flow nicely over hills and dips in your land.
- Final inspection and cleanup. We do a perimeter walk through with you to ensure we are meeting our high standards. We take all of the dirt, wood scraps and equipment off of your property.

The best and most popular wood for our humid coastal environment would be the pressure treated pine. This kind of wood is chemically treated so that the wood is resistant to termites and fungal decay. Pressure treated pine is perfect for our environment in Brunswick and the islands.
Treated wood fences are supposed to last you 15-20 years if installed correctly. If you keep up with the maintenance (i.e. cleaning the boards and putting a new coat of sealer on every few years), this can help significantly in making the wood last longer.
It's not required but we highly suggest it. You want to stain or seal it to help prevent damage from the heavy rain and the brutal sun damage. All you have to do is let the fence sit for about 4-6 weeks after we put it in so the treated wood dries out all the way. Then you just stain it.
Warping occurs when the wood isn't dry evenly. Sagging is due to bad construction such as using rails that aren't thick enough or digging post holes that aren't deep enough. So we make sure not to have these problems by using heavy duty hardware, spacing the posts correctly and making sure the framing materials are nice and thick to make sure it stays strong.
